Proper Coffee Roasters - Sleighrider - A Limited Time Must Have Addition to Your Arsenal - 10/10

Proper Coffee Roasters is a small roaster out of Indiana, their motto is “seeking what is best, and doing what is right in the pursuit of the ultimate cup” They fulfil this motto in spades, I’ll admit I was a little skeptical, the packaging was a little less aesthetic than I was hoping for, and Christmas blends are a tad over done. However, upon opening this bag, I was incredibly impressed. Proper Coffee Roasters Sleighrider is an equal combination of beans from Guatemala and Papua New Guinea. They claim that it has a natural sweetness, but I experienced some different flavors that I am excited to talk about.

The flavors mentioned above are what the roaster claims, however, I found a pleasant blueberry flavor and high acidity through all brew systems. I love this taste in my morning coffee. I actually find myself looking on longingly for the baking spice and the dark cherry notes. You get a wonderfully bold chocolate onset and then a blueberry finish with a wonderfully high acidity level. I found that the body is slightly smoother than many of the Christmas blends out there, in other words, it is much lighter and much more of an everyday roast in my opinion.

I brewed this through the Spinn brew system, the Gina by Goat Story and Coffee Gator French Press. Even with longer steep times in the french press I found that there was that lovely sweetness and blueberry finish. My favorite cup was through the Spinn by far though, the centrifugal extraction method is superb, it brings out the light body of the roast and the aroma that exudes through this method fills an entire room.

To wrap things up, I cannot understate how enjoyable this roast is, I think that when it is available you should always have this on your shelf, it is a great daily drinker year round. The wonderful acidity that comes in right at the very end leaves a lingering blueberry flavor on an otherwise chocolate forward roast. If I got this in my stocking every year I would be thrilled!
